Cline

Connect Runstack MCP in Cline (VS Code extension) — Configure MCP Servers or cline mcp wizard with HTTP or stdio.

cline

Cline is a VS Code autonomous coding agent with native MCP support. Wire it to Runstack's MCP tools at https://app.runstack.engineer/mcp (Streamable HTTP, Authorization: Bearer rnsk_…).

Prerequisites

Configure via UI

  1. Open Cline panel in VS Code → click MCP Servers (stacked server icon in top toolbar).
  2. Open Configure tab → Configure MCP Servers — this opens the MCP settings JSON.
  3. Or for a hosted URL: use Remote Servers tab → enter Server Name runstack, Server URL https://app.runstack.engineer/mcp, Transport Type: Streamable HTTP, add header Authorization: Bearer rnsk_YOUR_API_KEY → Add Server.

Manual JSON

Config file is shown via Configure MCP Servers; for CLI it lives at ~/.cline/mcp.json. Edit under mcpServers:

Remote (Streamable HTTP) — recommended

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "runstack": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://app.runstack.engineer/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer rnsk_YOUR_API_KEY"
      },
      "disabled": false,
      "autoApprove": []
    }
  }
}

Set type: "streamableHttp" explicitly — omitting it defaults to legacy sse. Add autoApprove: [] or limit to safe tools; disabled: false keeps it enabled.

Local (stdio) — via @rnsk/mcp

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "runstack": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@rnsk/mcp"],
      "env": {
        "RUNSTACK_API_KEY": "rnsk_YOUR_API_KEY"
      },
      "disabled": false,
      "autoApprove": []
    }
  }
}

CLI wizard alternative

cline mcp
# List / Add / Edit / Enable-Disable / Delete servers
# Prompts for name, transport (streamableHttp/sse/stdio), command/args or url/headers

Non-interactive list: cline config mcp or cline config mcp --json.

Verify

In Cline chat: “Use Runstack to search for GitHub issue tools”. Check MCP Servers panel shows runstack enabled and tools search_tools, check_authentication, initiate_connection, execute_tool are available. Complete OAuth via initiate_connection link when check_authentication reports token_missing.

Troubleshooting

IssueFix
